Nature
Nature nights also operate using projected images, but only images that meet the criteria for nature images. Those criteria are quite precise and are modeled closely on the longstanding definitions used by other national and international photographic organizations.

The definition of a nature image is as follows: “Nature images depict untamed animals and uncultivated plants in their natural habitat, geology and other phenomena not produced by man. Accurately recording the subject in its natural environment is the prime objective. Authentic wildlife is defined as one or more organisms living freely and unrestrained in a natural or adopted habitat. Evidence of man and his manipulation of the environment in any part of the image is undesirable and should be avoided. After satisfying the above requirements, every effort should be made to use the highest level of artistic and photographic skill in all nature photographs.”

As well as viewing images nature evening topics cover photographic tools and techniques useful for photographing flora and fauna in their natural habitat. Each fall and spring there is an open nature competition and each winter the Nature Chair also conducts the Muriel Cliff Wildflower Competition named in memory of a highly respected former club member.
