The Club's areasThe Lakeshore Camera Club has divided its activities into six main groups: Architecture and Interiors, Expressions, Fauna, Flora, Landscape, and People. Members are welcomed to attend and participate in any or all of these groups as these have been put forward mainly to give a direction to our evenings and not as a mean of dividing our membership. Architecture and Interiors Our focus will encompass the many different aspects to the genre including interiors, exteriors, urban scenes, documentary, abstracts, fine art, and even as it relates to travel photography. This year's program will consist of a presentation of a number of portfolios from the Lenswork publication featuring interpretations of different aspects of architectural photography, as well as some of the photographers' comments on their work. There will be a challenge in which members will be asked to submit three images that tell a story within the same subject or genre of the interest group. The details of the final year-end competition will be determined based on the feedback that the group receives throughout the year. Expressions The Expressions Group is where you can let your creative self loose and push your artistic vision beyond conventional boundaries. We want you to have fun exploring and experimenting with new ways of seeing and making images. So if you are a fan of abstract, edgy and provocative imagery, low-tech experimentation, or alternate techniques, then this is the group for you! There will be an Expressions competition every spring, and throughout the season our meetings will consist of a mixture of photo challenges, hands-on workshops, and guest speakers. Fauna The new Fauna Group encompasses all species of animals and includes traditional wildlife, but extends to domestic animals and animals living in zoos. Our program welcomes all photographers who love to photograph animals, but don't have access to long telephoto lenses. Our first meeting will be a Challenge on backyard photography. In future meetings we will delve into macro photography of small creatures, as well as pet photography. There are also planned field trips devoted to animal photography. Please note that our annual competition will be devoted to wildlife photography in the traditional sense. Flora The Flora group will include all plants, native or imported, cultivated, naturalized, or growing wild, in all life-stages from the first sprouting seedlings to their ultimate product – flowers, fruits, and seeds. The fungi are also included. The intent of this group is to encourage LCC photographers to learn more about overcoming the challenges inherent in photographing plants and flowers wherever they may grow, to share related tips with other interested photographers and ultimately, to create their own inspired images of flora. Landscape Are you one of those photographers who loves to point their camera at anything that looks like the great outdoors? Does the name Ansel Adams make shivers run down your spine? If so, you've come to the right place! A Landscape photograph is an image of a natural scene, of mountains and valleys, lakes and rivers, the sea, or of any natural geological formations. As much as possible, it should show little evidence of "the hand of man". Sometimes a fence, or barn, is integral to the scene being captured, and can be included. People Are you drawn to people, inspired by the human story? The People Group encourages you to uncover the human form and story through posed or candid portraits; documentary or journalistic photography; nudes; street photography and environmental portraiture. Sharpen your people skills and join us on a journey of human discovery that is sure to challenge and inspire you. This season we plan to introduce hands-on workshops, field trips to put your newly acquired skills into action, fun challenges that members of all skill and experience levels can participate in, and a new format for guest speakers. It's going to be a fun-filled, informative, and exciting season! |
